Differences between Biaxial and Uniaxial geomesh

Differences between Biaxial and Uniaxial geomesh.

Geomesh is a geosynthetic material consisting of a uniform surface made of mainly polyester, propylene and/or high density polyethylene. It is supplied as several strips laid out in a rectangular shape and joined by a point called node. Geomesh is available in both Biaxial and Uniaxial types depending on their manufacturing process. In this new post we will go through the advantages and the differences between each of them depending on their applications.

Both Biaxial and Uniaxial geomesh is manufactured from an extruded geotextile sheet which is then submitted to gradual stretching until the desired shape and features are achieved.

Uniaxial or mono oriented geomesh is manufactured to resist tension in the same direction as the expansion or roll, i.e., they are specifically designed to provide single direction reinforcement for mechanically stabilised soil structures involving all types of fill material. They are able to bear lengthwise tension as shown in the graph below.

Advantages of Geomesh

  • Easy installation also in adverse weather conditions.
  • Increased safety and slope stability.
  • Reduces land movements volume.
  • Maintains a natural aspect in hillsides.
  • Significantly increases the useful life of roads, railways and reinforced paths.
  • Significantly reduces the appearance of cracks on strengthened floor
  • surfaces.
  • Material highly resistant to damages during installation.

Solutions

  • Strengthening slopes in roads and railways.
  • Strengthening slope bases on soft lands.
  • Slope stabilizing piles.
  • Strengthening backfills and soils in industrial areas and shopping centres.
  • Strengthening and erosion control in slopes and steep hillsides.
  • Stabilisation and strengthening of retaining walls and green walls.
  • Stabilisation and strengthening of canalisations, river banks and coastal
  • areas.
