BENTONITE GEOTEXTILE

Bentonite geotextile is a waterproofing material. It belongs to the family of geocomposites.

This geocomposite is made up of two geotextiles that encapsulate sodium bentonite, clay of volcanic origin that, when hydrated, has a high expansion capacity. The stitching between these two geotextiles and the bentonite material is hydrated creating a monolithic waterproof layer.

This nonwoven product confined with bentonite provides excellent results in both new construction and rehabilitation projects. It is highly resistant to weathering and humidity. On the other hand, it is an alternative to sealing with compacted clays. The main function of this geotextile joined with clay is to waterproof horizontal and vertical underground extensions in buried roofs, slabs, concrete basement walls, cut and cover tunnels, diaphragm walls or formwork walls.

FUNCTIONS

The woven polypropylene geotextile acts as the supporting layer while the nonwoven polypropylene geotextile covers the geocomposite.

  • Prevents the passage of water: the hydration of sodium bentonite causes the increase of volume of the material, forming a dense gel.
  • Flexible: the structure of this geocomposite allows it to be flexible to adapt to the layout of the ground without reducing its strength and uniformity.
  • Easy installation: the material is installed by overlaps, with no need for welding or joining. Easy to install in soil and adverse weather conditions
  • Waterproof: the expanding hydraulic capacity of the material allows the material to be sealed while maintaining its waterproof properties against accidental punctures.
  • Good behavior of the material in the installation on slopes.
  • Self-sealing in case of accidental perforations.
